In February and March when the weather gets nicer, it’s time to collect Maple Syrup. Maple syrup is not just for breakfast any more!   Here is a whole meal you can prepare using our favorite sweetener.

MAPLE PORK CHOPS
4-6 oz. boneless pork loin chops

1 Tbsp olive oil
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 cup bourbon
1/2 cup chicken broth
1/4 cup maple syrup
1/4 tsp fresh thyme
Salt & Pepper to taste

Cook pork chops in a heavy skillet about 8 minutes, do not over cook the chops.  Remove & keep warm.  Add to the skillet the oil, garlic, bourbon & cover.  Cook over high heat 1 minute.  Add the chicken broth, maple syrup, salt & pepper cooking until slightly thickened, about 5 minutes.  Stir in the thyme & cook 1 minute.  Serve sauce over the chops.

CREAMY MAPLE SYRUP DRESSING
1 cup (250 ml) your favorite mayonnaise
1/2 cup (125 ml) pure maple syrup
1/4 cup (50 ml) apple cider vinegar

Mix all ingredients together thoroughly. Chill and serve with salad.

GLAZED CARROTS
8 medium carrots
3 tablespoons butter
¼ cup maple syrup
½ teaspoon ginger

Slice the carrots. Cook until they are tender. Melt the butter, then add the maple syrup and
ginger. Simmer the carrots in maple syrup mixture until glazed.

For Strong Bones Drink Beer!

Can beer really build strong bones? According to Tufts University’s Katherine Tucker, associate professor of Nutrition Science and Policy, beer contains a high level of silicon, which allows the deposit of calcium and other minerals into bones (Tufts E-News). Tucker says the benefit is there whether you drink light or dark beer, but that people should follow the consumption guidelines recommended by most experts. Two drinks per day for men, and one for women.

Prevent Procrastination

Most of us procrastinate from time to time. But if it's a real problem for you, try these tips from the efficiency consultants at Pace Productivity:

- Create an environment that is conducive to work. Close the door, clean off your desk and hold your phone calls.

- Make a to-do list, scheduling tasks in order of importance.

- Break large projects into smaller, more manageable tasks.

- Schedule unpleasant tasks early in the day and reward yourself for doing them.

- Set deadlines for yourself and share them with your colleagues. Ask them to check up on you.

- Don't get caught up in being perfect. Maintain your high standards, but recognize when good enough is good enough.

Which Do You Prefer? Chocolate? Or
Noodles with Black Bean Sauce?

America and Canada are not the only countries that enjoy Valentine's Day. Here are how other countries celebrate the day:

Denmark - Danes exchange white flowers called snowdrops and send humorous notes in which the sender signs his or her name in dots (one dot for each letter). If the recipient guesses the correct name, the sender will give him or her a candy egg at Easter.

Italy - On this day, many couples either become engaged or announce their engagements.

Mexico - On "Dia del Amor y la Amistad" (Love and Friendship Day), Mexicans randomly assign secret friends to receive anonymous gifts (similar to the Christmas tradition of Secret Santa).

Japan and Korea - Women give chocolate to men they like. On March 14th, it's the men's turn to reciprocate to those who gave to them with white chocolate or marshmallows, and this is deemed "White Day."
